Artist's Description

This is a photograph of a sugar shack, also known as sap house, sugar house, sugar shanty or sugar cabin located in Central Vermont. Sugar Shacks are most often found in Eastern Canada and Northern New England. The sap is collected from maple trees and boiled down into maple syrup without harming the trees. The busier period for sugar shacks is from late October to the end of April, which is when maple sap becomes available.
